In a new op-ed for the Boston Herald, Metri Bio CEO and co-founder Ashley Abel argues that endometriosis is almost certainly not one disease, and that treating it as one has kept care stuck in place for decades. Drawing on the research she began at Yale, she makes the case for modeling the disease with real patient tissue to identify its biological subtypes. That would allow future treatments to be matched to the right patients, much as subtyping transformed breast cancer care.
